Nowadays, many appliances use inverter technology in order to get the optimum efficiency ability. Generally, the kind of inverters that are currently in the marketplaces at this time is inverter compressors or familiar known as inverter tags! This type is so familiar in home appliances, especially for air conditioners. This technology will be so helpful to increase the performance of the unit. By changing the speed performance of compressor when responding the amount demand of cooling process, air conditioner inverters will make the unit be able to transfer the thermal flow continuously and more stably. This mechanism is able to give significantly result to the efficiency rating of the unit and will look clearly if you compare to air conditioning units that are designed without inverter.

Traditional air conditioners usually will force the compressor to run at a maximum level to cool the room powerfully. This problem can be anticipated by using thermostat technology. But this mechanism is not enough to make the unit work efficiently, especially in this modern living & the crucial issue of global warming issue! Today, there are several methods in order to make the unit be able to cover the varying cool demand. But mostly with the modulation of compressor’s capacity! Compressor itself has a lot of components, but can be classified into two major categories that are; electrical part & mechanical part. Electrical part is the secondary part that has function as electrical motor to put in motion the compressor. On the other hand, for the actual compressor is the mechanical part. Both components are so important to modulate the compressor.

In order to control the capacity of compressor, most of air conditioner inverters utilize a variable frequency to control & drive the motor. The inverter use the direct current (DC), therefore the alternating current (AC) of the electrical power must be converted first to be DC. For this process, the unit is usually already equipped with a rectifier. The DC then will be used to help the variable frequency mechanism for modulating that eventually will result the AC again at required frequency. Then the AC resulted will be inducted to the motor. This process is familiar known as ‘motor induction’. And finally with the proper mechanical setting, the frequency will be proportional to the speed of the compressor.

One big factor that makes air conditioners cannot work at the optimum efficiency performance is ‘start-stop cycles’! This unfriendly cycle must be eliminated as well otherwise also will result other problems such as decreasing the life of the components, aggravating the load of A/C unit, and even can make the inverter prone to get breakdowns improperly & quickly. Not only that, this improperly cycle also will make compressor work noisier. And this situation will be big problem particularly if you use portable air conditioners or window air conditioning units, because those types are usually designed with compressor that is located indoor with the indoor unit.

In 1990s, the poor efficiency of converting the AC (Alternating Current) to DC (Direct Current) is the crucial issue that becomes one of big drawbacks of air conditioner inverter technology. But in line with technological developments, now this problem can be anticipated as well. The conversion efficiency of AC to DC is higher and better. Although when the compressor is being at full load, it still keeps working properly and at its best efficiency performance. And today, like written before, there are a lot of home appliances that also use the inverter principle.
