Therefore, there are many manufactures or brands that compete to offer their air cooling products which are claimed can work better in efficiency. Today, we can also find several alternative cooling methods that friendly to the environment (eco-friendly option) such as geothermal heating and air conditioning systems, swamp coolers which usually can work optimal or not is influenced by the outside temperature and humidity, solar air conditioner systems, etc.

In fact, the air conditioner cost can reach up to seventy percent of energy bill total of a typical household in Asia. And in some countries that has four climates (summer, autumn, winter and spring) like USA, during summer season the air conditioner bill is around forty percent or more. Fortunately, there are some simply and smart options to cut and reduce air conditioning cost. Those options include; by analyzing the performance of the ac unit itself, how we do the maintenance (properly or improperly), how we operate the unit (it is already operated as well as like manufacture’s instructions or not), the environment of your local area, and still many more. Homeowners can make their house more convenience and comfortable during the hottest days without having worry about the use electric bill increases drastically, with a bit of smart effort.

Below are some smart tips how to reduce cooling costs, particularly when the unfriendly hottest weather comes into your home;

1. The super important point that must be calculated accurately is about the size of your ac system and the large size of the room. Improperly calculation like lower or over size will make the ac unit works inefficiently.
2. The next point is by considering the air circulation of the room such as how many windows, doors or other ventilations of the room.
3. Check about the efficiency energy rating of the unit like SEER number and approved from Energy Star of EPA or not. In addition, as higher value of SEER indicates the unit will work better in efficiency and SEER 13.0 is minimum recommendation.
4. Make sure that the unit is already installed correctly and properly. The wrong installation can influence the performance of the unit significantly when running. If you have unit that use ductwork mechanism then as possible ensure insulate ducts through the space or room where don’t require cooling (example; attic, basement, etc).
5. Please not ignore the proper maintenance! It is usually already listed in the manufacture’s guidelines. Some basic and important regularly maintenance are; cleaning and changing the HVAC filter, duct cleaning maintenance, fins cleaning, etc.
6. As possible please avoid using too old unit (more than six years) or conventional air conditioner model! Because we know well too old unit tends to work inefficiently that eventually will cause the unexpected increasing electric bill!
7. Using the single central ac device in your house is not too smart idea. Therefore, if you have enough budget then why not try to buy and use a free-standing or portable air condition unit (it consumes less energy when running) to complement your existing central ac system. It means; when you are alone in the room you can turn on your portable ac model to cool the spot space around you effectively (spot cooling method) and if your family (more than two people) is gathering in the room then you can use central ac to cool the room powerfully and optimally.
8. Optimize the smart features that will help you to use the unit wisely such as thermostat, timer, inverter technology, or else.
9. Install the condenser (indoor unit) in the right place where has adequate space for air circulation.
10. Why not to plant some trees around of your house. It is helpful option to reduce the heat from sun. And the southern and western of your house is ideal position to plant some trees because both are location where sun-sight and sun-rise. The shaded place is also ideal to place and install the compressor (outdoor unit).
11. Consider about furniture, color, and the decoration of the room! Dark color is not recommended. It will absorb heat that can bring greenhouse effect into the room ha4x. Ocean or water color is more recommended. In addition, installing solar film or mini-blinds in the windows is helpful to minimize solar heat enters into the room.
12. Don’t miss also to consider about the insulation. If the room has good quality of insulation then will be helpful to make your air conditioning work more efficient!
13. We know well that the amount heat that comes into the room is also absorbed through the roof. Sufficiently ventilating attics is also helpful idea to decrease the heat flux that enters into the building.
14. As possible avoid to do some activities that can increase the amount heat in your house like cooking or using oven in broad daylight.
