In PTAC air conditioners system mechanism, use evaporative coil to extract the condensate water from air. By using the condenser fan, the condensate water from air is attracted onto the condenser coil surface, and in this process it evaporates. So because they use evaporative coil mechanism, they don’t need to use the drain piping anymore. Maybe this reason, some people call them as evaporative units. Evaporative coil also is helpful to make the maintenance to remove and clean water inside of the cooling and heating unit to be easily.
