window air conditioner motor works but not blowing
Electric motor works but not blowing (lgknowledgebase.com)

Window air conditioners are one of popular selections for homeowners to complement their existing central air conditioning unit! These window units are great choice to cool the air more specifically and therefore are so recommended for small to medium rooms of the house. They are also more practical for the installation and consume less energy, particularly if compared to the central AC units! Window units have some important components to support their function to cool the air. One of those components is electric motors. Most of window units usually have two electric motors, one has function to blow the conditioned air into the room and other has function to turn the compressor that compress the refrigerant (Freon).

Well, there are a lot of brands and manufactures that produce window air conditioner products, one of them is LG. If you have one of them and you have used it for quite some time then perhaps you will find that the window air conditioner motor runs but not blowing! How to fix it? The following are three basic procedures that perhaps will be helpful for you to make the motor of your unit back to work properly:

1. Choose the only fan mode and then set it on the highest setting. If you find the cycle of the fan still cannot run properly or even the fan doesn’t cycle on after turning the setting, then turn off the power and wait around 180 seconds and then try to restart your unit. Check and consider the temperature setting in order to ensure it is not higher (lower) than the temperature of the room, because if the temperature is not higher (lower) than the setting then will not make the unit to start a new cycle until the temperature rises above the thermostat’s setting.

2. Next case, for the fan that can cycle properly; then perhaps there is frost build up on the cooling coils. The coils are usually located behind the air conditioner filter. So, open the filter and check them to make sure there is frost build up (ice) or not. The frost build up on the cooling coils can make a problem for the air flow that eventually will obstruct and hold up the units vents used to distribute air to the room!

3. If two diagnoses above still cannot solve the problem, then perhaps your unit has lost power recently! So try to reset your unit and don’t forget to check the plug to the wall unit (ensure that the reset button on the wall outlet or plug in engaged, contact a professional technician if you have a problem with this issue)!

4. And if three basic maintenance procedures above still cannot make the motor run & blow properly, your window air conditioner must be serviced.
