Perhaps you still unfamiliar about cooling tower! Well basically, cooling tower units are similar also call as evaporative heat rejection units. By using the water stream mechanism then they extract wasted-heat into the air and finally produce lower water temperature than the previous condition. Theoretically, they are claimed better capable to promise and provide lower water temperature than other regular heat rejection systems of air cooled systems.

Today, cooling towers are produced in many various functions and purposes such as for industrial appliances (mostly), electric power generation and even for commercial air conditioning systems. They can be categorized either into the closed heat rejection or into the open circuit rejection unit. They are also available in several sizes. In large power plants, the large size units are more familiar to remove heat and decrease the temperature of 100 gallons up to more than 1000 gallons of water/ minute. Therefore the larger-size units usually use big diameter pipes (that can reach up to 15 feet for the diameter or more) to supply the water. On the other hand for small-size units usually only be used to cool the water around tens of gallons/ minute, therefore these units use small pipes to supply water.

Types of cooling towers

Some types of cooling towers that are currently available at this time basically come with mechanical draft types, natural draft types, and fan assisted natural draft types. And each type has pros and cons! Choosing the best one theme is dependent on the requirement.

The mechanical draft cooling towers usually will push the air through the specific tower by using the fans power. Natural draft cooling towers usually will need buoyancy working principle of their exhaust air rising in chimney; this design has function to make ensure the required draft for cooling is covered. The buoyancy expansion mechanism is applied in fan-assisted natural draft types by using mechanically draft design.

What else you should know about cooling towers

Mostly they will produce unfriendly noise when working. The noise usually comes from the internal machine when working such as drive belts, motors, large fans working, etc. The sound of water falling also contributes to increase that unfriendly noise.

The improperly maintenance and improper operating can decrease the performance of the system and even can result potential hazards that you should be concerned as well. The maintenance procedures should follow the ASHRAE recommendations. The interval maintenance should not too short or too long. Air intake filtration and water filtration are two maintenance models that popular at this day. Which one the best? The answer is dependent on the source of debris.

In addition, don’t forget to wear the personal safety equipments such as including; protective clothing, wear respirators, gloves, etc. Make sure that the safety is the priority so thus we can eliminate and minimize any potential hazards, either any hazard that can be harmful to the machine or any hazard that can be harmful to you.

For more detailed information, it is better to also ask and discuss to a professional service in your local area. We can hire them if necessary!
