There are many numerous types of heat exchangers, but why you should try and use air cooled heat exchangers or usually also familiar called as ACHE? Well, in fact they are one of green options (friendly to the environment) to remove and beat the heat efficiently. Furthermore, they are also popular in many heating appliance (like space heaters) and air conditioning appliances. Basically, they are designed to be able to replace or distribute the amount heat from one location to another location (from one fluid to others), by using fan-blowing ambient air mechanism to remove the heat from a warm liquid.

Air cooled heat exchangers also usually can be found in the radiator of the car, refineries, upstream production, and petrochemical plants. They are also one of popular alternative options to control the extreme properties, such as high pressures and extreme corrosive fluids. Their friendly performance makes them become one of the best friendly options (when the environment is so crucial and considered at this time) for industrial plants and also can contribute to reduce the pollutant and save the earth in the future!

In the car’s radiator, they have important function to keep cool the engine. Glycol coolant mix is required to push out the surplus heat from the engine then will be replaced with the fresh ambient air. The uncontrolled extreme high temperature (produced from combustion process and friction when the engine running) will result bad effect to the performance of engine.

The working mechanism and working principle of air cooled heat exchangers are not easy to be understood especially for people who don’t have mechanical’s education background. Unlike other conventional heat exchangers, they don’t need a lot of cooling water to operate. Overall, ACHE can be defined; a simple vessel with the pressurized design to cool down a circulating fluid within proper tubes. The working principle is by forcing and setting the ambient air through over the outside (exterior) of the tube.

As like written in the previous paragraph, the big benefit when using air cooled heat exchanger is their green mechanism system because they don’t need a chemical treatment but only involve the amount natural fluid mechanism (will not bring bad effect to the environment). We just only consider about the high temperature of the amount water used is not too high!

The last, once again generally there are two major reasons why we should choose to use ACHE than other:

  1. In order to encourage the plant efficiency performance.
  2. Like mentioned before, ACHE is friendlier to the environment, particularly if compared to other options like tube heat exchangers and cooling tower, because there is not needed water treatment chemicals!
